The text:
Mother: After a long period of study, you are finally in 4AM and you’ll pass your Brevet exam in a few months to come. Now you know many things about your country and the world around you. You will have to make important choices. Some students will look for a job, others will keep on studying. You will have to decide what to do in the future. What about you son?
Son: Well mum. You know I dislike being ordinary and passive. As I am ambitious, I want to be an important officer in the Algerian Army. That’s why I will opt for the technical stream. I’ll work as hard as I can in high school. If I pass my Baccalaureate with high grades, I’ll get a scholarship. I’ll choose to go to a foreign country to study military aviation in order to become a skillful aircraft pilot. After I finish my training, I’ll come again to serve my country.

Charles Dickens was a famous English writer. He was born on February 7th, 1812 in Portsmouth, England. At the age of 9, he went to school and studied for only 3 years. He started to work very young because his family was poor.
At the age of 18, Charles Dickens worked as a reporter for a newspaper. He travelled to Europe and America.
Charles Dickens wrote many novels about people who lived in England in the Victorian period and the difficult conditions in which poor people lived. Some of his popular novels are: “Oliver Twist”, “David Copperfield” and “The Tale of the Two Cities” .Charles Dickens died on June 9th, 1870.

Situation One
An American pen friend of yours has asked you for information about how the Algerian educational system works. Send him / her a letter telling him / her about
-the name of pre-university schools in your country.
-the period spent in each school.
-the exams you pass at the end of each school year.

Situation Two:
Your teacher of Biology has asked you to make a research about how to protect animals from the danger of extinction

Situation Three:

Situation Nine:
Women’s role in society has changed in the 21st century.
Write a paragraph discussing the points in favour and against her role.

Situation Ten:
When you were younger, you used to do many things which you do not do any more. Write about what you used to do at that time.

Situation Eleven:
Nowadays youngsters are losing either their lives or their future because of drug addiction. Write a composition about the bad effects that drugs can have on people and the society.

Situation Twelve:
Women have always contributed to the development and progressof their countries. Write an article about the importance of women’s role in society.

Situation Thirteen:
2010 means new aspirations and expectations for all of us. Write a letter to your pen friend to tell him about your expectations you think will be fulfilled in the upcoming year.

Situation Fourteen:
Unlike old days, many people travel abroad to at present time which has its merits and demerits. Write a composition outlining the advantages and disadvantages of travelling abroad.




Situation Fifteen:
The Traffic Directorate has banned ( officially prohibited ) people from using mobile phones while driving. Write a letter to a local newspaper stating your opinion about this issue.

Situation Sixteen:
You have joined a health club because you wanted to keep fit. Write a balanced report to your school magazine about this health club to encourage other students to join it.
Describe it, its location, staff, fees and facilities and give your opinion.

Situation Seventeen:
Recently you have realized that many factories are being built in your area. As a result, this has influenced the lifestyle of many families and children. Write a report to your Municipality about advantages and disadvantages of building new factories in your area.

Situation Eighteen:
Factories, buses and cars are causing serious problems to our environment. Write a composition about this problem discussing the dangerous effects of this environmental pollution and suggesting what can be done to cope with this problem.

Situation Nineteen:
Last week, you participated with a voluntary group of pupils in a campaign to clean your school.
Write a letter to your friend to tell him/ her you did. Use the following notes:
Clean /the courtyard /sweep the floor
Paint / the walls /put / litter in garbage cans
Plant trees ….

Situation Twenty:
Do you think people will ever live in space? If no, why not? If so, where will the live and how will they do it?

Situation Twenty-one:

Situation Twenty-five:
Television is one of the most convenient ways of entertainment. Write an article to your school magazine about your favourite TV programme stating what is it about and what you like about it.

Situation Twenty-six:
How healthy are you? Write about your lifestyle including: food / exercise / free time activities / sleeping habits …………

While chatting on the net, an English person was interested in your country (Algeria ). Send him an e-mail to give him/her further information about Algeria. Use these notes:

One of the biggest problems some families encounter is their children’s dropping out of school. This is due to many reasons. Write a composition about why children leave school.

Situation Thirty:
More and more villagers move towards cities in search of a better life. Is it true that living in the city is better than living in the countryside?
Write a composition in which you outline the positive and the negative aspects of life in the city.
